Vintage 40s Iro Urushi Pin Camo Bakelite Layered Lacquered Japanese BroochHere is a carved and colorful vintage Iro Urushi pin, also known as Camo Bakelite, with striped layers of autumnal colors of orange red, coffee, chocolate, and butterscotch, circa 1930s 40s. The petite Art Deco brooch consists of a Japanese layered lacquer, made from the sap of the Staghorn Sumac tree which has naturally occurring phenols so that it passes chemical testing for Bakelite, although it has a completely different composition and process.
